New Leadership 2025

New Leadership, New Vision – Steering the Ball to New Heights in 2025!

The Railway Ball – the UK rail sector’s most prestigious annual fundraising event – has strengthened its leadership team with key new appointments to its Patrons and Committee, ensuring its continued success in raising vital funds for Railway Children.

The 2025 Ball welcomes a new Patron in Mark Wild, Chief Executive Officer of HS2. With a distinguished career leading major transport infrastructure projects, Mark’s support reinforces the Ball’s standing as the must-attend event for senior industry figures.

Existing Committee members are also stepping into new roles, further bolstering the event’s influence and impact. Angie Doll, CEO of GTR, takes over as Chair from Mark Hopwood CBE, bringing her extensive experience and leadership to the forefront. Rufus Boyd, formerly of Network Rail and the Great British Railways Transition Team, has been appointed as Vice Chair, alongside James Bain, Worldline UK & Ireland. Rufus also recently announced his return to his own consultancy, TransportJuice.
Meanwhile, Mark Tarry, known for his leadership at Network Rail and as Associate Director at InnoRail, steps in as Company Secretary.
Adding financial expertise to the Committee, Duncan Rimmer, Financial Director at Great Western Railway (GWR), joins as Treasurer. His appointment ensures strong fiscal oversight as the Ball continues to grow in scale and ambition.
