On Wednesday 13th May 2025, Worldline, long time Gold Sponsors of The Railway Ball, brought together industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers for a high-level conference on Artificial Intelligence—held 34 floors above London in the iconic BT Tower.
This unique event was the result of a successful bid in The Railway Ball 2024’s live auction, where BT generously donated the opportunity to host a corporate event at their landmark tower. The package included use of the BT Tower’s conference facilities and a spectacular lunch overlooking the London skyline.
A Platform for Insightful Discussion on AI
Worldline’s conference explored the evolving role of AI in the transport and infrastructure sectors and the difference AI can bring to customer experience given the right mindset. The day featured thought-provoking panel discussions and keynotes from industry experts, including former Transport Minister, Steven Norris and Toufic Machnouk, Managing Director, GBRX.
James Bain, Chief Technology & Operating Officer at Worldline and long-standing supporter of The Railway Ball, shared his motivation for bidding:
“This was an unmissable opportunity—not just to host an impactful event in an extraordinary venue—but to support a cause that’s close to Worldline’s heart. Railway Children need our backing more than ever. The charity is facing a funding shortfall of over £500,000 this year, and corporate support is critical to help continue their vital work protecting vulnerable children. Bidding for the BT Tower event was our way of making a difference while bringing people together around a topic that matters.”
BT’s Continued Commitment
BT, who were also proud sponsors of The Railway Ball in 2024, continue to play a key role in supporting charitable efforts across the industry. Mark Briers from BT commented:
“We are always looking for meaningful ways to give back—and Railway Children is a cause we deeply believe in. The BT Tower is a symbol of innovation and connectivity, and what better way to use it than to bring people together in support of children who are in desperate need of protection and care. We’re delighted Worldline could make such excellent use of the space.”
A Perfect Example of Purpose-Driven Partnership
This event perfectly captured the spirit of The Railway Ball—where business, community, and philanthropy come together to create lasting impact. As planning begins for the 2025 Ball, the organisers hope that partnerships like these will inspire even greater support for Railway Children in the months ahead.
